The SnowGlobe Initiative empowers youth to take practical, community-based action against environmental waste through education, accessible resources, and local sustainability projects.
The Name
Where “SnowGlobe” Comes From
The name SnowGlobe was inspired by the perfect winter scene captured inside a snow globe and the noticeable lack of snowfall Vancouver has experienced over the past few winters. Seeing something so familiar begin to change made environmental issues feel closer to home.
The contrast between the snowy world preserved inside a snow globe and the winters outside reminded us that climate change is not only a distant problem. It is already affecting the communities we know. SnowGlobe grew from our desire to turn that awareness into practical, youth-led action through projects that make sustainability more approachable and accessible.

Meet the Founders
Cynthia Huang
Hi! I’m Cynthia, a rising senior in the fall, and as a co-founder of the SnowGlobe Initiative, I’ve always had a passion and love for the environment. One of my favourite hobbies is snowboarding, so part of the reason for starting the SnowGlobe Initiative was to try to take action against climate change as it is slowly taking over my sport. I hope that by taking action, we can make individuals in the community feel more empowered to take action and remind them that they can genuinely make a difference, no matter how big or small.
Bella Lu
Hi, I’m Bella! I’m a grade 12 student with a strong interest in sustainability, health, and community impact. I co-founded SnowGlobe because I wanted to turn environmental concerns into practical, welcoming projects that people can genuinely participate in. Through this initiative, I hope to make sustainable choices feel more accessible and encourage other young people to recognize that meaningful change can begin within their own communities.

Volunteer Opportunities
As a SnowGlobe volunteer, you can get involved in the parts of our work that interest you most:
Helping run community workshops
Collecting plastics or textiles for our projects

Volunteering is flexible, and there are different ways to contribute both behind the scenes and in the community.
Who Can Volunteer
Is This for Me?
SnowGlobe welcomes students in Grades 7–12 who are interested in sustainability, community involvement, or simply trying something new.
There are no mandatory weekly or monthly time commitments, so you can participate when opportunities fit your schedule, and no previous experience is needed. We’ll provide the information and support you need to get involved!

What Is a Chapter
What It Means to Start a Chapter
Starting a SnowGlobe chapter means bringing our mission into your own school community.
Chapters are student-led groups that organize sustainability projects based on what matters most at their school. This could include:
Waste-reduction campaigns
Collection drives
Workshops
Fundraisers
School events
Other projects developed by your team
As a chapter leader, you’ll build a small team, communicate with your school, organize activities throughout the year, and stay connected with the main SnowGlobe team.
Chapters have the freedom to adapt projects to their own school while still being part of a larger network working toward the same goal.
The Process
How to Get Started
Apply to start a chapter.
Fill out our short chapter application and tell us a little about yourself, your school, and why you want to get involved.
Connect with SnowGlobe.
We’ll reach out to meet you, answer questions, and help you figure out what starting a chapter will look like at your school.
Get approved by your school.
Follow your school’s club process, find a teacher sponsor if required, and begin building your team.
Plan your first project.
We’ll help you choose or develop an activity that makes sense for your school and give you the resources to organize it.
Launch your chapter.
Recruit members, hold your first meeting or event, and officially introduce SnowGlobe to your school community.
Stay connected.
Share your progress with us, collaborate with other chapters, and continue planning projects throughout the year.

What Partnership Looks Like
Partnering with SnowGlobe can take many forms depending on what works for your organization. You might host a collection point for reusable materials, co-run a workshop or community event, sponsor supplies for a project, support one of our initiatives, or help us share sustainability efforts with a wider audience. We want partnerships to be collaborative and flexible, creating something that is meaningful for both your organization and the community.

You don’t need to have sustainability completely figured out. What They Do
Earnest Ice Cream builds social and environmental responsibility into how it operates. They use refillable glass jars and compostable, reusable, or edible packaging, source local and ethical ingredients when possible, maintain carbon-neutral operations, and power their production kitchen with renewable natural gas. They also donate 1% of their revenue to community causes, support local producers, advocate for climate action, and continue working toward becoming a zero-waste and more inclusive company.
Why They Stood Out
Earnest stood out to us because their sustainability efforts are both ambitious and easy for customers to take part in. Their jar return program has brought back more than 254,000 jars in a single year, showing how a simple reusable system can create a measurable impact. We also appreciated that they are open about continuing to learn and improve rather than treating sustainability as something they have already perfected.
